If you’ve been dreaming of a wedding day that feels like a luxury getaway without leaving the Omaha area, let’s talk about A View on West Shores in Waterloo, NE. As an Omaha wedding photo and video team, we’ve seen our fair share of stunning spaces, but there is something truly magical about the way the light hits the water here. If you’re a couple looking for that perfect mix of modern elegance and relaxed lakeside vibes, this might just be your "The One."
The Aesthetic: Geometric Lines & Waterfront Views
Forget the traditional—West Shores is all about modern industrial elegance. One of our favorite features is the outdoor geometric arch ceremony space. It frames you and your partner perfectly against the water, creating a focal point that is both striking and minimalist. It’s a photographer’s dream for those clean, joyful ceremony shots.
The Logistics: Navigating a "Triple-Threat" Venue
Because West Shores is such a popular destination, they can host multiple receptions at once in their beautiful upstairs spaces. As your photography team, our communication is key here. Since there is one main ceremony space, dock access is often timed. We work closely with the venue coordinators to ensure we hit that dock for those "must-have" lake shots exactly when the window is open, so you never feel rushed or like you're competing for a view.
The "On-Campus" Portrait Strategy
One of the challenges of newer developed venues like West Shores is the lack of mature trees for shade. However, if you know where to look, there are some incredible "on-campus" gems for portraits:
The Atrium (Your "Weather-Proof" Bestie): This is one of our absolute favorite indoor options in the Omaha area. With a stunning staircase and massive windows that let in all that beautiful natural light, the Atrium is a modern masterpiece. It’s the perfect "Plan A" for portraits if it’s an extra windy Nebraska day, a freezing winter morning, or if we just need to escape into the A/C for a mid-summer cool down.
The Tunnel: This industrial walkway between the venue and its neighbors (like the yoga studio and restaurant) is the best on-site spot for mid-day shade. It offers a high-fashion, urban vibe that contrasts beautifully with the lake. Note: It can get a bit windy here, which we love for adding movement to a veil!
The East Side Storefronts: Later in the day, as the sun moves further West, we love utilizing the white exterior of the storefronts on the east side of the building. The white walls act as a massive natural reflector, creating that bright, airy, and clean look our couples love. We always keep an eye on the ceremony schedule to ensure we respect other wedding parties while capturing these crisp, timeless shots.
Sunset on the Docks: There is nothing quite like a Nebraska sunset over the water. While dock access is timed, the payoff is worth it for those beautifully sun-kissed portraits with the lake as your backdrop. Want to take it up a notch? This is a fun opportunity to incorporate the water in a unique way—like renting a boat for a few "just married" sunset shots!
Since these are all shared space with other wedding parties and local businesses, we act in unison with your day of coordinator and other vendors to use the spaces strategically that are available to us! That way we're sure to get those high-fashion, urban-vibe shots without the crowds.
Elevate your Day with Photo + Video
With several events potentially happening at once, having a husband-and-wife team is a huge advantage. We stay in sync because we know the in's and out's of working a wedding together. Having a photo and video team means total coverage. While I'm tucked in for the detail shots, my husband provides a secondary POV and captures the professional audio of your vows, ensuring we document both the intimate whispers and the stunning lakeside atmosphere simultaneously. We handle the logistics so you can stay focused on the joy.
