The "what do i wear?" Struggle
You finally have the ring, the date is set, and your engagement session is on the calendar! But the moment you get those session details in your inbox, the "outfit spiral" begins. I know the feeling—you’re scrolling through Pinterest at 11:00 PM, looking at these gorgeous couples, and then looking at your own closet feeling like you have nothing that fits the "vibe." You want to look like the best version of yourself, but you also don’t want to feel like you’re wearing a costume that you'd never be seen wearing in public. Plus, as a bride-to-be, you’re likely balancing wedding planning, work, hobbies and—if you’re like me you're BUSY. You need easy, you need reliable, and you need to know it’s going to photograph well no matter the setting.
The Capitol Session: Kaitlyn & Cade
As you can see, Kaitlyn & Cade nailed it out of the park! For their session at the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln, they chose a look that perfectly balanced the "grandeur" of the architecture with their own effortless connection.
Kaitlyn’s choice of a white smocked eyelet dress was a masterclass in engagement styling. The white popped beautifully against the warm limestone of the Capitol, and the texture of the eyelet fabric added a romantic, soft touch that softened the "serious" feel of the government building. When Cade showed up in tailored slacks, it instantly leveled up the entire gallery. They didn't just look like a couple taking photos; they looked like a couple telling a story.
The "Fine Print" (With Love!)
Just a heads-up! To make your planning even easier, I’ve included links to some of my favorite engagement session finds on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, I may earn a small commission from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. This helps me keep the coffee flowing and the business growing so I can keep serving amazing couples like you! I only ever recommend pieces that I truly believe will make you look and feel like a million bucks in front of my lens.
The "Dress vs. Movement" Dilemma
Most brides-to-be tell me two things: "I want to look classy" and "I don't want to look awkward." Here’s the secret: Movement is the cure for awkwardness. This is exactly why I recommend starting with a dress. When you have fabric that moves, it gives your hands something to do (hello, skirt swish!) and it creates a sense of romance that a stiff pair of jeans just can't mimic.
But I also know the "Amazon Anxiety" is real. You want that high-end bridal look without the $400 price tag, but you're worried about quality. I’ve done the digging for you!

The Modern-Classic Bride
If you’re leaning into that chic, "clean girl" aesthetic for the Capitol steps, you want something with structure. For a look that feels high-fashion but is secretly comfortable, a Square Neck Mini is a dream. It gives you those clean lines that look so intentional against the architecture.

If you want to dial up the "bride" factor, an Off-the-Shoulder Organza or a Satin Mini with Puffy Sleeves gives you that "main character" energy. These are the dresses that make you feel like you’re heading to an after-party in Paris, even if we’re just in downtown Lincoln!

Comfort is a Love Language Maybe you’re worried about being "too formal." I hear you! You can still wear a dress and feel like yourself. A Smocked Midi (this one even has pockets!) or a Boho Floral allows you to breathe, move, and—most importantly—hug your fiancé without
feeling restricted.

For my brides who want to show off their curves while staying elegant, a Ruched Bodycon or an Elegant Mock Neck Satin creates a stunning silhouette that looks incredible in those "walking away from the camera" shots. And if you’re going for that "statuesque" vibe, a Halter Maxi is a total showstopper.

Why Two Outfits is a Must (The "Play" Factor) After we’ve captured those "save the date" worthy shots in your dress and his slacks, we’re going to do a quick 180. I always suggest a second, more casual look. Why? Because I want to see you play.
Think about your favorite Sunday afternoon. You aren't standing perfectly straight; you’re laughing, you’re leaning into each other, maybe you’re even a little bit messy. By changing into a cozy, casual outfit—think high-quality knits, denim, or even leggings and an oversized sweater—we unlock a different side of your relationship.
When you aren’t worried about your heels sinking into the grass or your dress blowing up, we can do the fun stuff:
The Tag Game: I’ll literally have you run. It sounds silly, but the genuine laughter that comes from Cade trying to "catch" Kaitlyn is something you can’t fake.
The Ground Snuggle: Some of my favorite shots are the ones where you’re just sitting on a blanket (or the grass!), rolling around, and just being.
The "Unposed" Life: This second outfit is for the movement. It’s for the piggyback rides and the spontaneous dances.
Final Tips for my Nebraska Couples
Lincoln and Omaha have such a unique mix of urban grit and natural beauty. Whether we’re at the Capitol or a local park, remember that these photos are about your connection. Don’t overthink the "perfect" pose—wear something that makes you feel beautiful, bring a second outfit that lets you be a kid again, and I’ll handle the rest.
