Don't be intimidated

You really do not need a big set up to take your own family self portraits. The process can seem rather intimidating, but really with practice, it can be a smooth process. The hardest part will be getting your children to cooperate because let's be honest, they're better for other people than they are for you.

Here are a few things that you'll need to go along with your camera:

  • A remote; I really like my Pixel remote that I found off of amazon, and no I am not sponsored by them.
  • Tripod
  • Candy to bribe the kids with.

Once you have everything, you're all set to start posing with your family. My best recommendation to find a well lite area in your home or shady spot outside. Pose yourself in ways that you would pose on the couch snuggling or standing in your kitchen. Find ways to connect yourself to your family. Play games, touch noses, do butterfly kisses.

If you find yourself in a place where your images are fuzzy, for the Pixel remote, press the circle button half way down to allow the lens to focus on you, then fire away. I will keep my thumb on the trigger for continuous shooting to get all the intimate moments.

There you have it, it's that easy! Sometimes, all it takes is five or ten minutes to get the shots. If you're feeling discouraged, it takes practice. Maybe you politely ask your partner to take over and snap away, who knows what you'll get. :)
