Lincoln has stole my heart
Lincoln has stole my heart. As many of you know, I am born and raised a Lincolnnite. So I truly know the in's and out's of Lincoln and the surrounding areas. So here are three of my top locations inside of the Lincoln city limits, and I'm going to drop two bonus locations that I love that are both about 15 minutes outside of Lincoln.
#1 pioneers Park
This is literally one of the most versatile locations year round to have your photo session at. In the spring there are Cherry blossom trees in bloom, Summer there are pink peonies and in the fall, there are the most beautiful fall foliage you could ever imagine. There are some more urban type landscapes including a utility barn, columns and pathways, as well as, large rolling hills, tall shady trees and open fields.
As you can see different times of year really can play a role in the colors, looks and feels of your photographs. The bonus to this park is that it does not require too much walking to get to these beautiful locations, however, the terrane can be sloped in some areas, so if there is anyone in your family that is in a wheel chair or trouble walking, the large open fields and hills may not be accessible. But don't completely nix this spot because of that. There are plenty of other scenic locations that we can use instead.
#2 Holmes lake
If you're looking for blue, bold dramatic skies, near the water, Holmes Lake features all this and more! With their sandy beach areas, you can dip your toes into the lake. While the views aren't quite as versatile as Pioneers Park, you're sure to be blown away by the outcome. Depending on what time we start your session will depend on which side of the lake we shoot on. For evenings, we'll enter the park from the Golf course entrance (the south side), while for morning sessions, we'll meet near the North entrance close to the children's playground area.
#3 Nebraska State Capitol
If you're wanting more of an urban setting, the Nebraska State Capitol is a fantastic location for an outdoor session during the summer time. The grass is outside the monumental Capitol Building is lush, while the fountains across the street typically are running. Add a fun element of water with the kids or your spouse that you can make memorable memories by playing tag, kicking off your shoes and splashing water at your feet without the worry of someone falling into the lake or pond. Then after your session you can go and get completely soaked. Plus you're within walking distance to other beautiful urban areas like parking garages and alley's.
mmmmkk.
Bonus Location #1: Pawnee State Park
In case you didn't know this about me, but I'm a super big fan of water. While we don't live nearby epic mountains, beaches or canyons, Nebraska has a humble way of showing off her beauty. You just have to know when and where to look for it.
That's where I come in. Planning your session isn't all about what you wear. While it plays a huge role it in, the time of day is important, the weather (just ever so slightly), the season and where the sun is located will depend what side of the lake we shoot at, much like Holmes Lake. If you choose this location for your session, I will get you very specific instructions on where we'll meet because there are several entrances, but typically we'll be in the areas close to where the boats dock vs. the camp sites. This location isn't typically too busy with bystanders, which is why I also love this location so much, and it definitely makes it worth the 20 minute drive west.
One thing to keep in mind, is that you'll either need to pay a small admittance fee (bring like $5 cash all in ones), or you'll need a Nebraska Park Pass, which you can buy here. I typically buy one each year, so you don't have to worry about paying my entrance fee.
BONUS LOCATION #2: Sleepy bee's lavender farm
This is such a new location to the area, that we love love love! Home grown roots in Sleepy Bee's Lavender Farm is just south of Lincoln in Firth, Nebraska. Because it's a new location, we will have to work with the owners on when we can shoot, and there is an entrance fee as well. There is only one large lavender field making it not as secluded as some other areas. The last time we visited this farm, you had to go when the lavender tours were happening as well. So being respectful of the tours going on is an absolutely must. This is a sunset only location due to the proximity of the tree lines. After your session, you can go enjoy some shopping from the makers and thirst your quench with some lavender lemonade.
So depending on the look you're going for, or the setting you desire more or less, will really set the tone for the over all look of your photos. If I had to pick a favorite location, I'm not sure I could pick just one.
